Compare the Range
| Series / product | Thickness | Nominal aperture | Open area | Maximum single length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Safety — Fine Aperture | 30mm | 8 × 8mm | 30% | 1250mm |
| Safety — Medium Aperture | 30mm | 12 × 12mm | 42% | 1250mm |
| Industrial | 25 / 38mm | 31 × 31mm | 68% | 1220mm |
| Industrial | 50mm | 28 × 28mm | 56% | 1220mm |
| Industrial — Special | 60 / 70mm | 27.5 × 27.5 / 27 × 27mm | 54% / 49% | On request |
All panels are cut to the required width. Nominal aperture is the clear opening between bars; it differs from mesh centre spacing. Length is the single-panel supply dimension and does not indicate an allowable unsupported span.
New Drainage Systems.
Practical Retrofit Solutions.
SPG Drainage Grating is manufactured to suit the dimensions and service conditions of your project, including replacement of existing steel drainage grates.
Options include a range of colours, custom widths, aperture choices and modular panel layouts for longer drains and larger areas.
Supply the opening dimensions, support details and anticipated loading so the appropriate series, thickness and panel arrangement can be reviewed.

Select for the Span.
Specify for the Load.
Performance must be assessed using the clear span across the drain width and the actual support arrangement. Typical clear spans considered in the catalogue are 300mm, 450mm and 600mm; larger widths are available on application.
Grating is typically installed across the drain opening, with support on opposite sides. Product selection must account for bearing conditions, uniform or concentrated loading and the environment.
Industrial Series options for forklift or wheel traffic require a specific design review. Catalogue break point values are ultimate failure assumptions, not allowable working loads.
Design & engineering information
Catalogue load data is provided as a guide for preliminary selection. Final suitability depends on clear span, bearing and support conditions, uniform or concentrated loads, tyre contact area, load frequency, deflection limits, safety factors and environmental exposure. Forklift and wheel traffic must be assessed case by case. Final performance and compliance must be verified for the individual application by the project engineer.
Drainage Grating FAQ’s
What is Staircare ProGrit Drainage Grating made from?
SPG Drainage Grating is manufactured from fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite material with a silicon carbide anti-slip surface. It provides a lightweight, corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional steel drainage grates.
What is the difference between the Safety Series and Industrial Series?
The Safety Series uses smaller 8 × 8mm or 12 × 12mm nominal apertures and a 30mm thickness for pedestrian, public infrastructure and commercial applications. The Industrial Series uses larger openings and a range of thicknesses for greater open area and industrial service conditions. Final selection depends on drainage, span, support and loading requirements.
What slip resistance ratings does the grating achieve?
The catalogue specifies Class P5 Wet Pendulum and R12 Oil-Wet Inclining Platform ratings to AS 4586, tested by a NATA-accredited testing authority. Contact Staircare for the relevant test reports for your selected product.
Is the Safety Series heel-safe?
The 8 × 8mm Fine Aperture option is designed to help reduce heel entrapment. Aperture, surface profile and the overall installation should be reviewed against the pedestrian and access requirements of the project.
Can SPG Drainage Grating replace existing steel grates?
Yes. Custom-cut panels can be supplied for retrofit replacement, subject to checking the existing drain opening, bearing supports, recess depth, restraint and loading requirements. Provide measurements and photographs so our team can review the application.
Can vehicles or forklifts travel over the grating?
Industrial Series grating may be suitable for trafficked applications following project-specific design review. Forklift and wheel loads require assessment of clear span, support conditions, tyre contact area, loading frequency and safety factors. Catalogue break point loads represent assumed ultimate failure loads and are not allowable working loads.
What panel sizes and colours are available?
Safety Series panels are available up to 1250mm long in one piece, cut to the required width. Industrial Series panels in standard 25mm, 38mm and 50mm thicknesses are available up to 1220mm long in one piece; 60mm and 70mm options are available on request. Standard and custom colours can be discussed with our team, and modular layouts can be used for larger areas.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide the application, drain opening and overall panel dimensions, clear span, available bearing and recess depth, anticipated loads, pedestrian or vehicle use, preferred aperture and colour, quantities, photographs or drawings, and delivery location.
