Stair Tread Covers (Stair Nosing) FAQ's
What is Staircare Progrit (SPG) Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers made from?
SPG Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers (Nosing) is manufactured from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) and features a bonded heavy duty silicon carbide grit surface. This construction provides excellent durability, slip resistance, and long-term performance in demanding environments.
Where are Staircare Progrit (SPG) Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers typically used?
It is commonly installed on industrial stairways, plant access stairs, public walkways, platforms, marine structures, and high-traffic commercial areas, especially where enhanced slip resistance, edge visibility and NCC / AS 4586 compliance are required.
How effective is the heavy duty grit for slip resistance?
The heavy duty silicon carbide grit surface delivers exceptional slip resistance in wet, dry, oily, and contaminated conditions, helping to significantly reduce the risk of slips and falls, even in high-traffic or harsh operating environments. It has the advantage that the surface grit does not delaminate as is often the issue with steel or aluminium based anti-slip. Tested to AS 4586:2013 Slip resistance classification for new pedestrian surface materials. Slip Test Reports by NATA certified laboratory are available on request, please give us a call or send an enquiry.
Is Staircare Progrit FRP stair tread nosing suitable for corrosive or outdoor environments?
Yes. FRP is corrosion resistant, UV stable, and chemical resistant, making Staircare ProGrit Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers ideal for outdoor installations, coastal locations, industrial sites, and areas exposed to chemicals or moisture.
Are different Stair Tread Cover sizes available?
Yes. Staircare Staircare ProGrit (SPG) Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers are available in four standard depths: 70mm, 100mm, 150mm, and 230mm, all featuring a 25mm vertical drop and supplied cut to suit the required stair width.
The 70mm and 100mm sizes are designed to highlight the stair edge while providing effective slip resistance at the nosing point.
The larger 150mm and 230mm sizes provide slip protection across the entire stair tread surface and can also be supplied in two colours, typically black with a 50mm wide yellow nosing strip to enhance edge visibility and compliance with NCC / AS 4586.
The larger stair tread covers are commonly used on steel grated steps to close open voids, particularly where stairs are located over water or significant drops, improving both safety and visibility.
How is Staircare Progrit Anti-Slip Stair Tread Cover installed?
The stair tread nosing is typically mechanically fixed to concrete, steel, timber, or FRP stair treads using suitable fasteners and adhesives. It can be supplied pre-drilled, cut to size, or custom manufactured to suit both new builds and retrofit applications.
What maintenance is required for Staircare Progrit Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers?
Minimal maintenance is required. Routine cleaning to remove debris will maintain performance. The heavy duty grit surface is designed for long service life, even under continuous foot traffic and harsh conditions.
Is there an Anti-Slip Stair Tread Cover Specifier Compliance Note?
Yes. Staircare Progrit Anti-Slip Strips and Stair Tread Covers (Nosing) are manufactured from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) with a bonded silicon carbide anti-slip grit surface, designed to improve pedestrian safety in public access, commercial, and industrial environments.
When installed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, Progrit Anti-Slip Strips and Stair Tread Nosing support the slip resistance and step surface definition objectives of the National Construction Code (NCC) and the accessibility principles outlined in AS 1428. The durable, high-slip-resistance surface assists in reducing the risk of slips in both wet and dry conditions, while consistent placement across walking surfaces contributes to improved wayfinding and step awareness. Slip Test Reports by NATA certified laboratory are available on request.
The FRP construction is non-corrosive, UV stable, and electrically non-conductive, making the product suitable for indoor and outdoor applications, including areas exposed to moisture, chemicals, or harsh environmental conditions. Products can be supplied cut to size and mechanically fixed to suit both new construction and retrofit works.
Final compliance with NCC and AS 1428 requirements remains the responsibility of the project designer, certifier, or approving authority, with installation, colour contrast, and layout to be confirmed as part of the overall access and safety design.
