The Task
MBL Maintenance was appointed by V/Line Corporation to complete a major upgrade at the heritage-listed Woodend Railway Station, including the station footbridge, stairs, and pedestrian access areas.
Staircare supplied custom-cut Staircare Progrit SPG-230 Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers in black with 50 mm yellow nosing strips, retro-fitted over the existing timber stairs to meet current safety standards.
Progrit SPG Anti-Slip Plates were also installed to landings and the footbridge walkway, providing Class P5 slip resistance.
Certification
Staircare Progrit SPG Stair Tread Covers and SPG Anti-Slip Plates conform with:
- AS 4586-2013 Slip Resistance Classification of New Pedestrian Surface Materials, including:
- Appendix A: Wet Pendulum Test — Class P5
- Appendix B: Dry Floor Friction Test — Class D1
- Appendix D: Oil-Wet Inclining Platform Test — Slip resistance assessment group R12 .
Project Outcomes
The SPG Stair Tread Covers and Anti-Slip Plates were successfully installed by MBL Maintenance, transforming the existing access areas into durable, slip-resistant, and compliant surfaces.
The completed works provide safe, clearly defined pedestrian access across the stairs, landings, and heritage footbridge, ensuring improved safety and long-term performance for daily station users while preserving the character of the site.
