The Task
The Sydney Zoo flat roof is used for behind-the-scenes operations, including access to cages and aviaries that are regularly attended by staff. The existing flat concrete roof surface was extremely slippery, particularly in wet conditions, creating a significant safety risk.
Solution: Staircare supplied and installed a custom-made SPG Anti-Slip Plate walkway system to provide a safe and durable access route across the roof area.
Certification
Staircare SPG Anti-Slip Plates conform with:
- AS 4586-2013 Slip Resistance Classification of New Pedestrian Surface Materials, including:
- Appendix A: Wet Pendulum Test — Class P5
- Appendix B: Dry Floor Friction Test — Class D1
- Appendix D: Oil-Wet Inclining Platform Test — Slip resistance assessment group R12
Project Outcomes
SPG Anti-Slip Plates were installed to form a new roof walkway, finished in high-visibility yellow to clearly define the designated path of travel. The system delivers excellent slip resistance, significantly improving staff safety and usability of the rooftop area in all weather conditions.
