StairCare Projects - SC-R Scaffold Safety Access Hatch, type SC-R 152

The Situation

Traditionally plywood was used to close scaffold access openings. However, plywood can get very slippery and even with an anti-slip finish the timber is still prone to water, oil, grease and grime build up that can be dangerous under foot.

The Solution

Staircare SC-R in combination with Industrial-Marine was given the brief by the safety team of Laing O'Rourke to design a scaffold access safety hatch for the groups Expanded Structures Scaffold Business.

To stop ponding or build up of grime Staircare utilised the company's SC-R FRP Mini Mesh with a heavy-duty silicon oxide anti-slip grit. An SC-R FRP pultruded angle doubles as support for scaffold couplers and as a 150mm high Kick Board.

The fibreglass resin contains fire retardant, chemical resistance and the material has been Slip tested all to Australian Standards - see reports.

The unit was successfully load tested to 250Kg.

The Scaffold Access Safety hatch, Type SC-R 152 has been site tested and the first 100 units have been delivered to offer a light but strong and resilient safety device to protect workers from accidentally falling into access openings on scaffold platforms.
